Round Rock will hold an open house for community members to share their thoughts on the city’s downtown mix-used zoning districts Oct. 29.

The city is currently reevaluating the districts and aims to gather public input before proposing new amendments, according to city documents.

The context

The existing downtown mix-used districts include one-to-three story commercial buildings; a variety of building types for combinations of commercial, office and residential; and residential buildings with limited commercial and office use.

This plan was adopted as part of the 2010 Downtown Master Plan, with a goal of creating a walkable district with a mix of businesses and homes, while also complementing the existing downtown historic district.

What it means

Round Rock is considering the zoning districts in light of “the needs and preferences of the Round Rock community today.” There are a variety of zoning designations available in Round Rock, each with defining stipulations for building heights, amount of parking space and design standards.

The open house will be held Oct. 29 at the Round Rock Public Library, rooms A and B. Residents may come and go at their leisure, 4-7 p.m.
