Three open houses are scheduled next week for Vista Oaks residents in Round Rock to learn more about a proposed trail through the neighborhood.

What's happening?

The Williamson County Parks Department is hosting the come-and-go events at the open-air pavilion inside the Vista Oaks neighborhood, located at 3420 Vista Hill Drive, Round Rock, during the following times:

  • Thursday, July 18, from 6-8 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 20, from 9-11 a.m.
  • Tuesday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m.
About the project

The county seeks resident opinion on the first phase of the project, which would connect the Southwest Williamson County Regional Park to FM 1431 through the Vista Oaks HOA Greenbelt.

Eventually, the trail would extend along Sam Bass Road to Wyoming Springs, and then connect to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail. The trail extension aims to give residential areas further access to parks, communities and schools, while ensuring safety and accessibility for all residents.

The project would use funds from park bonds approved by voters last November.

Who it affects

Williamson County is asking Vista Oaks HOA for a 20-foot easement to construct the trail as well as maintain it going forward. The property would still belong to the HOA.

The impact on trees and wildlife is expected to be minimal, as the concrete trail would follow a natural path without needing to remove much of the surrounding vegetation, according to county documents.

There will be no lighting on the trail in order to discourage after hours use, and standard rules for Williamson County parks will apply, including the barring of motor vehicles.

Get involved

Residents are encouraged to attend the open house sessions with any questions or comments pertaining to the planned trail. There is more information available on Williamson County’s project page.
