A new resource for community events may soon be available following a purchase for a large LED screen trailer authorized by Round Rock officials Aug. 25.

Round Rock City Council approved the purchase of a 23-foot-wide LED screen anchored to a trailer for the Parks and Recreation Department, which often rents portable screens for community events. It will join a smaller trailer at the 36 planned community events held by the Parks and Recreation Department, Director Rick Atkins said.

“I guarantee you get we a ton of use out of it,” Atkins said.

The $249,900 price tag for the screen will be paid out of the city’s general fund, according to city documents. Purchasing a second portable LED screen will result in an annual savings of $12,000, Atkins said during the Aug. 23 packet briefing. It will not totally eliminate the need to rent an additional screen, however, as the city’s annual 4th of July event requires three total.
