The Round Rock City Council, absent council members Matthew Baker and Kristin Stevens, voted to amend its water and sewer rates Jan. 27.

Following a water and sewer rate study, the city's utility department recommended lowering wastewater rates and maintaining water rates for the city's residential customers.

The amended ordinance also reduced the volume rate of retail wastewater by 8%, and the wholesale water volume rate by 8.8%. Rates for retail water, the base rate of retail wastewater and retail reuse water remain unchanged.

Rates for wholesale water were adjusted in accordance with cost-of-service demands, and customers rates ranged from a decrease of 3.8% to an increase of 7.6%, according to the city. These include individual municipal utility districts that are customers of the city.

These rates will go into effect on Feb. 1.
