Utilities Director Michael Thane said the pipe became known as a source of wastewater exfiltration as the city inspected wastewater lines following an issue with excess inflows discovered in March. After an initial repair, two additional parts of the pipe warranted attention, leading the city to decide to replace the 552-foot-long pipe altogether.
"Four months ago this pipe was underneath the water," Thane said. "I'm sure you have a lot of creek water running into this pipe."
The contract was awarded to Chasco Constructors, which has completed multiple wastewater line repairs as the city works to address wastewater inflows. It includes the completed pipe repair, replacement and construction of an additional manhole.
"This work is being performed quickly to expedite the repair of the entire line and avoid any potential wastewater from discharging into Brushy Creek," city documents stated.
Funds for the project will come from the city's self-financed wastewater construction fund.
