Voters in Round Rock will decide between two candidates for the Place 3 seat in the May 4 election, per campaign filings.

What you need to know

Candidates Melissa Fleming and Alan Simms have filed to run for the Place 3 seat in the May election. Incumbent Matthew Baker will not be seeking re-election, stating in a news release that he wanted to focus more on family and the demands of operating his small business. Kristin Stevens will also be running for re-election unopposed for Place 5.

What will be your top priorities if you are elected?



My top priorities include attracting major companies for job opportunities, managing growth and sustainability for all businesses small and large. Addressing traffic congestion and road maintenance issues for a better quality of life.



What uniquely qualifies you for this position?



My diverse background in transportation, entrepreneurship and community engagement uniquely qualifies me to understand and address the needs of Round Rock residents effectively.



What do you see as the greatest challenge for the city, and how will you improve it?



Balancing economic growth with maintaining a high quality of life poses the greatest challenge. I'll address it by fostering responsible development, improving transportation infrastructure and creating job opportunities to support our community's well being.

What will be your top priorities if you are elected?



Keeping our families safe by supporting our brave men and women in law enforcement and firefighters. Maintaining and upgrading our city’s infrastructure including addressing our traffic congestion, water, and parks. Meeting the challenges of growth and development while retaining the character of our community.



What uniquely qualifies you for this position?



I have 26 years in the financial services industry, prior business owner and founder of a local nonprofit. I serve on various boards and committees within my community to give back. As a wife of a retired police officer, I am uniquely prepared to tackle public safety issues.



What do you see as the greatest challenge for the city, and how will you improve it?



The greatest challenge I see will be meeting the needs for future growth and development while retaining the character of our great community. I will work with neighborhood groups, and business and community leaders to ensure Round Rock remains a great place to live, work and raise a family.



What is something you want Round Rock residents to know about you?



We moved to Round Rock to raise our family and never imagined our son, Brock, would lose his battle to brain cancer. We turned our pain into purpose creating the Team Brock Chapter of The Cure Starts Now raising nearly $2 million for pediatric brain cancer research to find a cure.
