The filing period for the May 7 Round Rock City Council election opened Jan. 19.

The council seats up for election this year include places 2 and 6, which are occupied by Mayor Pro Tem Rene Flores and Hilda Montgomery, respectively. Flores was elected to Place 2 in May 2016 and re-elected in May 2019, according to the city. He was elected mayor pro tem in December 2020.

Montgomery gained her council seat in a 2017 special election. She was re-elected to her seat in May 2019.

The filing window will remain open to prospective candidates through Feb. 18 at 5 p.m. Applications to be placed on the ballot are available for pickup at city hall, 221 E. Main St., Round Rock, or they can be downloaded from the city's website. The last day to declare write-in candidacy will be Feb. 22, before 5 p.m., according to the city.

Round Rock City Council members serve staggered three-year terms. All council seats are at-large positions.
