1. Round Rock ISD considering modifications to new state reading, language arts curriculum

Round Rock ISD is considering adjustments to a controversial reading and language arts curriculum provided by the Texas Education Agency ahead of the 2025-26 school year.

What you need to know

A Dec. 16 news release from RRISD states that district administrators are considering how to implement the new curriculum, Bluebonnet Learning. Bluebonnet will replace the Amplify, Carnegie and Eureka curricula for elementary school-level language arts and reading, math for kindergarten through eighth grade and algebra 1, as previously reported by Community Impact.

2. Round Rock ISD expects budget surplus after sale of Cypress Blvd. property

In its first mid-year budget update since the board of trustees asked administrators to provide more frequent snapshots of the district's financial position, Round Rock ISD administrators shared that the balanced budget adopted for fiscal year 2024-25 is projected to actually turn a surplus of about $8.2 million.

This comes as the district expects to close on the $9.3 million sale of a 7.5 acre property at 17 Cypress Blvd., Round Rock, Chief Financial Officer Dennis Covington said Jan. 16.

3. Round Rock ISD updates policy for parent notification of 'violent events'


District parents will now receive notification for any violent activity on Round Rock ISD property and sponsored activities that constitutes a "serious or continuing threat" to the campus community, after officials gave final approval on a policy update.

RRISD officials approved an update to the district's policy guiding how parents will be notified of violent activity on district property on its second reading Dec. 16.
