Round Rock ISD trustees voted May 16 to set a maximum price for the renovation of Stony Point High School’s cafeteria at just under $3.4 million, more than four times the project's initial estimated cost.

How we got here

The cafeteria expansion is a project included in the 2018 bond and will include the partial enclosing of an existing courtyard.

While the project to expand the cafeteria initially called for only 100 more seats and had a price tag of around $707,000, district staff told trustees in September the project was incorrectly scoped, and growth among the student population required additional seating and came with higher costs.

The approval for use of funds allows the district to begin the design process, Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez said in September.

What’s next?

The design and permitting process is expected to last for nine months, and construction is expected to last nine months as well, barring any delays.
