Trustees will hold three two-way public forums with community members in the month of September:
- 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7: Ridgeview Middle School cafeteria, 2000 Via Sonoma Trail, Unit 5659, Round Rock
- 6:30 p.m. Sept. 11: virtual Zoom meeting
- 6:30 p.m. Sept. 19: Pearson Ranch Middle School cafeteria, 8901 Pearson Ranch Road, Austin.
Trustees approved the exploration of holding additional town halls, listening sessions, neighborhood meetings and other forms of two-way communication with community members in April.
Place 6 Trustee Tiffanie Harrison said these meetings might include two or three trustees to avoid creating a quorum, and offer a different kind of setting for community members to speak face-to-face with school board members outside of a structured public meeting. Harrison said that although the board's regular meetings do provide a form of two-way communication for interested stakeholders, there are some barriers to attendance, such as distance and traffic.
"There are people that simply won't come to us," Harrison said. "We need to figure out a mechanism to come to them on their terms and explore how to do that safely."
At the time, district officials said potential topics might include the board’s vision for the district and values, what the responsibilities of the board are through its Lone Star Governance program, as well as school finance and the district’s budget.
