Taylor ISD officials selected former Round Rock ISD Superintendent Steve Flores to serve as the district's interim superintendent Aug. 8.

What's happening

TISD officials selected Flores to fill the position of superintendent following the departure of Devin Padavil, who was hired as Georgetown ISD's superintendent Aug. 7. Flores will serve the district in this capacity as officials work to find a suitable permanent replacement. The board also chose JG Consulting as the firm to handle its superintendent search.

How we got here

GISD officials concluded the search for a new superintendent Aug. 7 with the hiring of Padavil. The GISD board of trustees, absent Place 1 Trustee James Scherer, voted unanimously to hire Padavil to serve the district as the board's lone employee. His departure leaves TISD without a permanent superintendent, triggering a search for the next person to lead the district.

Flores left RRISD in 2020 after the board of trustees chose not to renew his contract beyond 2022.
