The Round Rock ISD board of trustees has called a meeting for July 25 to interview candidates to fill a vacancy following the resignation of Place 1 Trustee Jun Xiao in June.

While a total of 25 applications were submitted to the board, Ken Zornes, Kevin Johnson, Alicia Markum and Cassandra Hulsey were selected to be interviewed to possibly fill the Place 1 vacancy through November. A that time, the board seat will go back to the voters to select a candidate to carry out the rest of the term, which ends in 2024.

The board officially accepted Place 1 Trustee Jun Xiao's notice of resignation in a 5-0 vote during its June 14 meeting. Xiao announced his intention to resign June 7 via social media, stating he had tendered his notice to the board. Xiao's letter did not include any statements elaborating on his decision to resign, according to district documents. He was first elected to the board in November 2020.
