Round Rock ISD Place1 Trustee Jun Xiao announced his resignation effective June 7 via Facebook post.

Xiao was elected to serve a four-year term in 2020 and has previously announced intentions to resign twice previously, in January and in August 2021.

Jenny LaCoste-Caputo, RRISD chief of public affairs and communications, confirmed that the board received notification of Xiao's intent to resign. The next step in the process, according to LaCoste-Caputo, would be for the board to officially accept the resignation at its next meeting, set for June 14.

Once Xiao's resignation has been accepted by the board, it may either appoint someone to serve in his seat on the board until the November election or call a special election. The winner of the special election would serve out the remainder of the term, which expires in November 2024.

In his posting, Xiao did not cite a specific reason for his resignation, but he apologized for expressions of anger and frustration on the dais during a recent board meeting.

Xiao did not respond to efforts to contact him regarding the announcement, but this is an ongoing story that will be updated with any statements made.
