The Round Rock ISD board of trustees has voted to hire Hafedh Azaiez as the district's superintendent.
The vote was 5-2, with trustees for places 2 and 7, Mary Bone and Danielle Weston, respectively, voting no.
Azaiez comes from Donna ISD, which has been under a Texas Education Agency conservatorship since 2018, following abuse of funds and arrests of two board members.
However, the conservatorship predates Azaiez's time with the district.
Azaiez received a bachelor's degree in physics and chemistry from La Faculte des Sciences de Tunis in Tunisia, a master's of education from the University of St. Thomas and a doctorate in educational leadership from Sam Houston State University, according to the Donna ISD website.
The contract approved by the board is for three years at a $400,000 annual salary.
Daniel Presley has been serving as the acting superintendent of schools since the departure of former Superintendent Steve Flores in December.
