What you need to know
Council will consider a measure to rezone 29.69 acres near 2501 E. Old Settlers Blvd. for a Skybox data facility.
The proposal for the data center shows that the property itself and others it is adjacent to area zoned for industrial use.
Skybox is asking the city to rezone the property to allow a data center, ultimately dividing it into three sections with different uses to establish what is permitted on different parts of the site, such as a data center, substation and open space.
Per the proposed development plan, the center would use a closed-loop cooling system.
Remember this?
The city of Round Rock's Planning & Zoning Commission gave preliminary approval for a proposed Skybox data center near East Old Settlers Boulevard during a Nov. 5 meeting.
Skybox is in the process of building data centers in nearby Hutto, Pflugerville and Taylor.
What's next?
The measure under consideration in Round Rock is a first reading, which means council could require another vote for final approval on the rezoning. Council could also vote to negate the need for a second vote and approve it that night.
Council will meet at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at City Hall, 221 E. Main St., Round Rock.
