What you need to know
Chad McKenzie, Round Rock director of sports management and tourism, said the project remains on time. He said crews are finishing final “punch list” items this week, which include small touch-ups and equipment testing before staff training begins in early November.
One remaining component—the new retractable bleacher system—is expected to arrive and be installed by mid-December.
The expansion began July 2024 and adds additional court space and features an upgraded touchless Amazon retail store inside the facility, allowing guests to purchase snacks and drinks without a cashier.
The project’s final change order, approved by City Council Oct. 16, allocated $263,590 in 2023 bond funding to complete final improvements, including resurfacing both parking lots, electrical and plumbing upgrades, and landscaping adjustments.
Looking ahead
Looking ahead, McKenzie said the city hopes to eventually pursue a second phase, which could double the facility’s capacity to 14 basketball and 28 volleyball courts. McKenzie said there’s already strong demand for additional practice space, noting the facility is booked Monday-Thursday for a year in advance.
