Round Rock City Council will vote on a contract to purchase and install a playground at its meeting Feb. 27. The contract is a part of the larger Old Settlers Park renovations, and would replace the former Joanne Land Playground.

The details

Council will consider $1.87 million contract with webuildfun Inc. for custom designed playground equipment, shipping and installation. The new playground would be two to three times larger than the previous Joanne Land Playground, and also includes built-in lighting for safety and accessibility, Parks Director Rick Atkins said.

"Little kids growing up in this community are going to feel like this place is larger than life," Parks Director Rick Atkins said at a Feb. 25 agenda packet briefing.

About the project

Round Rock planned to replace the Joanne Land Playground as part of the overall Old Settlers Park build-out project due to high use from the public, according to a city news release.

"We knew we had to come back with something a little bit better than what we had there," Atkins said.

After completion, the complete park buildout will also include:
  • A new recreation center, including an indoor gym, outdoor track and four multipurpose fields
  • Expanding the Rock’N River waterpark for additional water features and parking
  • Constructing a new Lakeview Pavilion with a permanent stage
  • Expanding the Multipurpose Complex with six additional fields
  • Relocating the tennis complex and constructing new tennis and pickleball courts

Parts of the park and nearby streets are closed for construction. Residents can check alternate routes and updates here.
