1. ACC breaks ground on expansion to Round Rock campus
Austin Community College will break ground to expand its Round Rock campus Nov. 22. The expansion project will add two new buildings to the campus, as well as renovate a current building.
About the project
ACC’s Round Rock campus expansion will have two phases. Phase 1 includes two new buildings:
- Building 5500 will encompass programs for advanced manufacturing, heating and air conditioning repair technology, and a future electrician certificate program in a 24,200-square-foot space.
- Building 4000 will house the automotive technology program in a 36,500-square-foot facility.

2. Williamson County officials work to repurpose century-old historic jail site for future use
Three buildings next to the Historic Williamson County Jail are in the process of being demolished to prepare the old building for a potential sale.
The big picture
Demolitions for the buildings are either complete or underway with the following time frames:
- The former Williamson County and Cities Health District building: demolished Nov. 12-14
- A cinder-block building next to the historic jail: demolished Nov. 12
- A three-story building attached to the historic jail: demolition completed by Nov. 20-21
On Nov. 4, the buildings began an interior stripping process to recycle materials, Covey said.

3. Round Rock’s newest fire station now open
Fire Station 1 of the Round Rock Fire Department, the first of three new stations funded by May 2023 voter-approved bonds, opened Nov. 14.
A closer look
Located at 1730 E. Old Settlers Blvd., the new station hosts a battalion chief and fire crew originally stationed at the Central Fire Station. This relocation will help better distribute response times in Round Rock, especially in the east side of the city, according to a city news release.
The central station, located at 203 Commerce Blvd., will still oversee administration for the entire Round Rock Fire Department.

4. 3 gas line contracts move Old Settlers Park buildout along
Three projects to reroute and expand gas lines associated with the Old Settlers Park buildout project will move forward after Round Rock City Council approved the contracts with Atmos Energy at its Nov. 7 meeting.
About the project
The Old Settlers Park buildout project began in September to renovate and expand the park. It is funded by 2023 voter-approved bonds and includes features such as a new Lakeview pavilion.
Future plans for the park include:
- Upgrades to Rock’N River water park, including additional parking
- Civil and electrical upgrades for built-in infrastructure for events
- Expanding the Multipurpose Complex, including six new fields
- Expanding the Adult Recreation Complex, relocating the tennis complex and pickleball courts
5. Wastewater treatment facility in Round Rock to receive rehabilitation
Brushy Creek Regional Wastewater System will undergo rehabilitation following Round Rock City Council approving a contract with Plummer and Associates at its Nov. 7 meeting. The facility, located in Round Rock off Highway 79, is currently under design to expand its capacity.
The big picture
Round Rock oversees operations and maintenance of the regional wastewater system, which also serves Cedar Park, Leander and Austin. Plummer is currently designing the facility’s expansion, which will increase its treatment capacity from 30 million gallons per day to 40 million gallons per day.
