Three projects to reroute and expand gas lines associated with the Old Settlers Park buildout project will move forward after Round Rock City Council approved the contracts with Atmos Energy at its Nov. 7 meeting.

About the project

The Old Settlers Park buildout project began in September to renovate and expand the park. It is funded by 2023 voter-approved bonds and includes features such as a new Lakeview pavilion.

Future plans for the park include:

  • Upgrades to Rock’N River water park, including additional parking
  • Civil and electrical upgrades for built-in infrastructure for events
  • Expanding the Multipurpose Complex, including six new fields
  • Expanding the Adult Recreation Complex, relocating the tennis complex and pickleball courts
Work for the project started with the Lakeview event area, and construction will begin on the new tennis and pickleball courts in December. The recreation center and Multipurpose Complex expansion is scheduled to begin next summer and fall, respectively. The Rock’N River expansion is slated to begin next winter, in the waterpark's off season.

What's next?

Three reimbursement agreements with Atmos Energy Company will extend the main six-inch gas line as well as provide service to the new projects.

The main gas line will extend under Kenney Fort Boulevard to provide service to Rock’N River water park, as well as the new recreation center and administration center. A gas line that currently runs through the Multipurpose Complex will be rerouted to accommodate the project.

Still under design, the cost of the three projects totals almost $1.6 million. An additional 20% contingency is included in the contract with Atmos Energy, with any leftover funds being returned to the city.
