Round Rock officials approved a request to rezone 11.73 acres of land south of Old Settlers Boulevard and Settlers Glenn Drive at its June 23 meeting.

The property owner requested the zoning change from commercial to MF-1 to allow for a low-density multifamily housing project to be built on it. The development will bring approximately 134 new housing units to the area with three to six units in each building.

"They have more than 120 apartment units, and they are separated by natural open space or other local commercial uses, just to kind of break up the neighborhood there and make it a little more appealing for the folks that live there," said Brad Wiseman, Round Rock planning and development services director.

This will be the second phase of a townhouse development directly south of the property being developed by Meritage Homes.

City documents state that residential use of the land is in line with the comprehensive plan, and the land was originally zoned for commercial use in 2019.
