Construction on the next phase of a trail connection project bridging Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza in the city's downtown was given the green light by city officials July 27.

Current situation

The Round Rock City Council voted to approve a $2.46 million contract for the construction of a 1-mile stretch of trail connecting Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza, awarding it to Muniz Concrete and Contracting.

How we got here

The trail connection was designed using 2013 bond funding and will be tied into the Chisholm Trail. This trail connection will not connect to the Greater Lake Creek Trail that runs through east central Round Rock.

The specifics

The segment of Lake Creek Trail is designed as a 10-foot-wide trail with pedestrian underpasses under intersections at the Union Pacific Corp. railroad and I-35. A bridge is planned to connect the trail to Centennial Plaza over the namesake Lake Creek.
