The next phase of a trail connection project bridging Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza in the city's downtown could see approval at an upcoming council meeting.

Current situation

Council will vote July 27 on a $2.46 million contract for the construction of a 1-mile stretch of trail connecting Round Rock West Park and Centennial Plaza, potentially awarding it to Muniz Concrete and Contracting.

How we got here

The trail connection was designed using 2013 bond funding and would see the trail tied into the Chisholm Trail. This trail connection will not connect to the Greater Lake Creek Trail that runs through east central Round Rock.

The specifics

The segment of Lake Creek Trail under consideration is designed as a 10-foot-wide trail with pedestrian underpasses under intersections at the Union Pacific Rail Road and I-35. A bridge is planned to connect the trail to Centennial Plaza, over the namesake Lake Creek.

Should officials award the contract, city documents show it would be cash funded.
