The $19 million expansion to the Round Rock Sports Center could also bring an expanded cashless retail experience to visitors of the athletic facility.

What you need to know

City documents show the Round Rock City Council will consider a $176,182 contract with Amazon.com Services to provide its Just Walk Out technology for a second store within the center, as part of the ongoing expansion to the sports facility.

If approved, the project would be funded by the city's sports and community venue tax revenue.

The details

The proposed contract would see the city pay a setup fee of $49,387, with a monthly cost of $2,113.25 to continue using the technology in the second store. A five-year contract for the technology is under consideration.

How we got here

The city first made an agreement to bring the cashless technology to the sports center in May 2024. Chad McKenzie, the city's director of sports management and tourism, said the existing Amazon store in the sports center has generated about $324,000 in sales in its first year, at a July 22 packet briefing.

What's next?

Council will vote on the measure July 24.
