The Round Rock ISD board of trustees will reconvene March 21 to consider items to reinstate or terminate its suspended superintendent, Hafedh Azaiez.

The board voted March 8 not to approve a superintendent separation agreement, but will reconsider it during this meeting. All items will be considered in executive session.

At its last meeting, RRISD trustees conferred with an attorney in closed session regarding the inquiry carried out by an external investigator at the direction of the district's Texas Education Agency-assigned monitor, David Faltys, as well as a separation agreement for Azaiez.

After just over five hours of closed session, a motion to approve the separation agreement was put forth by Place 5 Trustee Amy Weir and seconded by Place 4 Trustee Cory Vessa but failed 4-2 with the "yes" votes coming from Vessa and Weir. Place 3 Trustee and board President Amber Feller abstained.

Azaiez has remained on leave since Jan. 6, when the board approved a recommendation from Faltys to suspend their only employee. Azaiez remains on leave pending the outcome of an investigation of underlying conduct described in a protective order the Travis County District Court issued in July. In addition to the TEA-recommended investigation carried out by an external party, Azaiez has been under investigation, for allegations made in the protective order, by the TEA directly and the Travis County Sheriff's Office for several months.
