Area drivers now have a bypass south of Main Street to navigate around downtown Round Rock.

The city announced Sept. 16 that the second phase of the McNeil Street project has concluded. Crews extended McNeil from Burnet Street to Georgetown Street. In addition, Lewis Street was extended to connect to the new McNeil Road and roadway improvements were made to Georgetown Street.

The project began in summer 2019 and cost approximately $4.1 million to complete. Funds were provided through the city's Type B sales tax fund, where a half-cent of city sales tax is used for economic development and roadway improvement efforts.
