Mike Snyder has only lived in Hutto for a short time, but during his city council campaign he said Hutto residents were open and welcoming.

"They didn’t look at me as an outsider even though I’ve only been here about two and a half years, they looked at me basically as a Hippo," Snyder said.

The real estate manager originally from Kansas City, Missouri defeated incumbent Nate Killough to win the Hutto City Council Place 3 seat.

Snyder said communication with residents will be a key priority as he takes over the position, as will managing development and the city's growth in a responsible way.

"I really want to get to work on what I ran on, which is opening up our city government in a manner that’s never been open to the public before, to be a model for transparency," Snyder said.

There were a total of 877 votes tallied in the election, with 52.6 percent of voters, or 462 total, for Synder and 47.4 percent, or 417 total, for Killough.
