The city has been announced as the host of the NCAA Big 12 Soccer Championships 2020-22, according to a Nov. 14 news release.

The competition's move to Round Rock comes as part of a multiyear agreement that marks the first time in seven years Texas will host the championships competition, per the release. The events will be held at the Round Rock Mulitpurpose Complex and feature top players from the NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic conference, the release added.

Competing teams will face off in eight-team, single-elimination brackets, with the winners of each game advancing forward to the NCAA Soccer Championships, according to the release. Tentative tournament dates are set for Nov. 1, 6, 8, 2020; Oct. 31, Nov. 5, 7, 2021; and Oct. 30, Nov. 4, 6, 2022, respectively.

"The Round Rock Multipurpose Complex was built for premier athletic events such as the Big 12 Soccer Championships and we are very proud of this new partnership,” said Chad McKenzie, the city's director of sports management and tourism, in the release. “We look forward to welcoming the Big 12 student-athletes and our region’s many loyal sports fans to another elite soccer event in the Sports Capital of Texas."
