Ask the editor: What’s being done to connect the SH 45 frontage road between Donnell Drive and Heatherwilde Boulevard?

Many area commuters have asked about the gap in the SH 45 N frontage road between Donnell Drive and Heatherwilde Boulevard. According to the city of Round Rock, connecting the road in that area is an ongoing project with the Texas Department of Transportation and Texas Tollway Authority.

An initial schematic layout for the project was prepared by the city of Round Rock and submitted to TxDOT for review. Upon receiving feedback from TxDOT, city officials made revisions to their plan and resubmitted it to TxDOT, and it is now awaiting more feedback. Gary Hudder, Round Rock’s director of transportation, said he is not sure if the TTA will allow the connections to be made.

Coordination among the city, TxDOT and TTA is ongoing.

A budget and timeline for the project have not been determined.
