As you have likely noticed, our area is developing rapidly. New businesses are bringing in new residents and new homes to our communities. With that development comes a larger demand for power, which puts a strain on existing infrastructure.
What you are seeing regarding the power lines on FM 685 and SH 130 is the replacement of the existing line between Pflugerville and Hutto. Oncor representatives said the line reached capacity, so they needed to install a larger wire.
Because it is larger, the new wire weighs more than the old wire. To accommodate the increase in weight, Oncor needed to replace the large metal transmission poles with new ones in a few places along the line. The lines are not being moved, they are simply being upgraded.
Development for our area will mean more than building new buildings, it also means upgrading and maintaining our existing infrastructure to accommodate the larger population.
