At Tuesday's Williamson County Commissioner Court meeting, commissioners voted to implement a county burn ban to last up to 90 days. It can be lifted by County Judge Dan Gattis once conditions improve.

The ban stipulates that a person cannot burn any combustible material outside of an enclosure which contains all flames. It also prohibits the burning of household yard waste including leaves, grass, brush and trimmings.

The burning of trees, stumps and shrubbery to clear land is also forbidden.

Any commissioned peace officer can enforce the ban by charging violators with Class C misdemeanors, punishable by fines up to $500.

This ban comes in the midst of wild fires raging across the county due to dry weather and high heat.
