Reader's Digest crowns the "Nicest Place in America" each year, and in 2017, Pflugerville High School is up for the title with nine other contenders.

Pflugerville HS is the only school on the list and is competing with places such as Hayesville, North Carolina; Oriole Park in Baltimore, Maryland; and Providence, Rhode Island.

The winning locale will be featured on the November cover of Reader's Digest and will be determined by an online vote. A statement on Pflugerville ISD's website says the winner will also be determined based on the "embodiment of the spirit of niceness and the kindness of the people in the place."

Go online to place a vote. Voting is limited to one vote per person and per email address per day. Voting ends Friday at 11:01 p.m.

Pflugerville HS was nominated by teacher Dixie Ross and was named a finalist for its unusual atmosphere as a high school.

"In an era where kids get trolled for being different, the student body at Pflugerville High goes out of its way to be accepting to all," a statement from Reader's Digest said.
