A question for  Hutto ISD

What was a top distinction presented to the district this year? HISD was named to the 2015 Gaston Caperton Opportunity Honor Roll, one of only two districts in Central Texas named to the list of 130 districts across the United States that are being recognized for creating opportunities for traditionally underrepresented students.

Big decisions made in 2016

  • The district opened its sixth elementary school, Howard Norman Elementary School.
  • HISD was named to the AP Honor Roll, one of only 22 districts in Texas and 433 in the U.S. and Canada to receive the award.
  • HISD Robotics finished second in the state in the UIL Robotics Competition.
  • The district earned a perfect score in the FIRST rating system, the state’s highest fiscal accountability rating.
  • The school received the most combined distinctions in the history of HISD as recognized by the Texas Education Association’s 2016 Accountability Rating System.
  • The district launched the HISD Police Department with an aim to create a safer community within Hutto.

Top issues for 2017

  • HISD officials will watch the Legislature closely as lawmakers tackle a number of education-related bills.
  • Continue discussing House Bill 2804 and the new A-F accountability rating system. A district official said unanswered questions remain.
  • The district will begin the process of becoming a district of innovation, as allowed by HB1842. As a district of innovation, HISD officials said they will be able to implement their strategic plan with increased flexibility and freedom necessary to personalize learning experiences and inspire excellence in academics, character and community.
  • Due to continued rapid growth, Hutto ISD plans to add additional classrooms to three elementary schools.
