Omar Peña will continue serving as Pflugerville City Council's mayor pro tem following council appointment and approval Nov. 24.

Peña has served as mayor pro tem since 2015, with the position filled each year as new council members join. The mayor pro tem acts as mayor when the mayor is absent from a meeting.

Peña first joined Pflugerville City Council in 2012, and his current term on council ends in November 2021.

Council Member Mike Heath seconded the motion to re-elect Peña to the position, crediting him for a job well done. The vote passed 6-1, with Peña jokingly voting against the motion.

"Mr. Peña, [my seconding of your motion] was a mistake," Heath said, laughing.
