Round Rock Express unveil special event uniforms

The Round Rock Express will nod to a popular TV show with local roots with one of the team's new special event jerseys this season. On Saturday, May 5, the Express will change into the Round Rock Armadillos, donning jerseys designed after AMC's zombie-horror TV show "Fear the Walking Dead". Much of the show's upcoming fourth season was filmed at Dell Diamond. “We are proud to further showcase the versatility of Dell Diamond alongside a great partner in AMC,” Round Rock Express President Chris Almendarez said in a news release. The Round Rock Armadillos uniforms, which will be worn only at the scheduled May 5 game, appear tattered and stained to reflect the aesthetic of the post-apocalyptic TV show. "Fear the Walking Dead" is a precursor to AMC's hit show "The Walking Dead". Game worn Round Rock Armadillos jerseys and hats will be auctioned off during the game with all proceeds going to the Round Rock Serving Center – a nonprofit that provides a food pantry and financial assistance for local residents in need. Throughout the season, the Round Rock Express will also intermittently transform into the Round Rock Chupacabras for the team’s participation in Minor League Baseball’s (MiLB) “Copa de la Diversión”. Copa de la Diversión is a league-wide, season-long series hosted by MiLB to promote the diversity of participating clubs' local Hispanic and Latino communities. The Round Rock Express is one of 33 clubs selected by the MiLB to participate in the event series. The Round Rock Express will wear Chupacabras jerseys and hats on April 8, May 10, June 17, July 29 and Aug. 26. The jerseys will be auctioned after the Aug. 26 tilt with proceeds benefitting a local Latino-focused nonprofit organization to be announced at a later date. Throughout the Copa de la Diversión campaign the team will partner with nearly a dozen other Lation-focused nonprofit organizations based in Central Texas, according to news release.
