After 20-minute interviews with seven candidates, Round Rock ISD board trustees named Stuart Selvaggi as their choice to fill the vacant Place 6 position on the board.
Selvaggi is a graduate of Westwood High School and has since enrolled three children in the district. Selvaggi works in real estate services.
He has been an active member of the RRISD PTA for 11 years and has worked as a member of the Forest North Elementary WATCH D.O.G.S. program.
Selvaggi said his leadership philosophy for the board will be to always focus on what is best for students and to provide a unique perspective as a RRISD graduate.
Place 6 has been vacant since May, when trustee Paul Tisch
resigned his post to move to College Station for a job with the Texas A&M University System. On June 15 the trustees voted to accept Tisch's resignation. The board subsequently held two open forums for interested candidates and accepted applications from June 21-July 26.
The board received 31 applications for the open position and chose to interview seven candidates at the Monday night meeting: Ryan Baker, Barbara Beto, John Grey II, Sergio Mendoza, Selvaggi, David Schmidt and Elizabeth Swanson.
The board asked the candidates about the most important issues challenging RRISD, how candidates would deal with conflicts on the board and what kind of legacy they would like to leave in their tenure.
The board swore in Selvaggi on Monday night officially and will execute another ceremonial oath of office on Thursday night at the board's regularly scheduled meeting.
The term of Place 6 will last until November 2018, when an election for the place will be held.
