In early August, Pflugerville ISD announced two new top level administrators - Denise Kablaitis as the new executive director of health and safety, and Cara Schwartz, the new executive director of special education.

Kablaitis, who will start her new role in early September, with the start of the new school year, previously worked in Hutto ISD most recently as the Director of Health and Safety services. She has previously worked as an RN, staff nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in both hospitals and a school-based health care center.

"Denise has a solid background in [health and safety services]," Superintendent Doug Killian said. "She has experience creating public-private partnerships between schools and healthcare entities to benefit children and families."

Kablaitis holds an Associate Degree in nursing from Mercy College of Detroit, a Bachelor of Science in nursing from University of Detroit-Mercy and a Master of Science in nursing from Wayne State University.

Schwarts previously worked in Georgetown ISD as the executive director of special and federal programs, a position that oversees special education and dyslexia programs.

"The complexity of special education requires both a solid knowledge of regulations and a firm foundation of best practices and innovation," Killian said. "Cara Schwartz brings these important skill sets to Pflugerville ISD, and we are fortunate that she is joining our team."

Schwarts received her Bachelor of Science in interdisciplinary studies from Texas A&M and a Master of Education in educational leadership and administration from Sam Houston State University.  She is currently pursuing a doctorate from Texas State University and will begin her new position in early September.
