What we reported Hutto ISD held an open house and dedication for its sixth elementary, Howard Norman Elementary School, on Aug. 8. The school is located in the Riverwalk neighborhood south of Hwy. 79, east of Chris Kelley Boulevard. The school’s namesake was a Hutto High School graduate and World War II B-24 pilot killed in action.

The latest The school has several renewable energy features, including a windmill that pumps rainwater to irrigate the property, solar panels on the roof and the south side of the building, and a rainwater-collection system.

What’s next As the school comes close to capacity in the next couple years, the district is planning for future growth. At a board meeting in November, the board was told by planners Hutto’s growth will require a new school every two or three years.
