The district’s board of trustees voted unanimously March 10 to sell a portion of land that was purchased with the intent to build future schools.
Deputy Superintendent Ed Ramos presented the plan at a March board meeting, and he told trustees the original purchase exceeded the amount of land needed to meet the district’s growing needs.
“One of the things we want to do is put that property for sale,” Ramos said. “We purchased a school site, 74 acres, called the Green Haven site near Siena. The goal of the purchase was to build a middle school and an elementary school in that area, and in order for us to achieve that purchase, the seller was only willing to sell us the entire plot of land.”
According to Ramos, design plans show the district needs only about half of the tract to build the proposed schools in the northern section, and the proposed sale will include approximately 39 acres in the southern portion of the tract in Williamson County.
With the approval, district officials will move forward with the sale in a sealed bid process.
