This fall Hutto High School will change its schedule from seven to eight periods, allowing for smaller class sizes, more cafeteria supervision and additional elective courses.

“As growth comes [to Hutto] we’re going to have bigger class sizes, and we don’t want to get to the point where that’s the norm,” HHS Principal Roy Christian said.

The new schedule will stagger lunch times for students, easing the burden on staff supervising the period, he said.

Each class period will be several minutes shorter than last year, so the school day will not be significantly lengthened with the addition of an eighth period, Christian said.
