Parmer Lane Elementary School was named as both a high-performing and high-progress Title I school in May for 2014-15 based on the campus’s STAAR reading and math scores from that school year, according to a statement from the district. Texas Education Agency identified about 400 campuses throughout the state as high-performing or high-progress Title I schools.

Principal Barry Miller said in a statement that teachers working together helped improve the test scores.

“I’m in awe of the effort that our staff puts into every aspect of their jobs,” Miller said in a statement. “They care deeply about the academic growth and overall well-being of our students and their families. I’m very proud of how well our students rise to the challenges set before them.”

The identification of high-performing and high-progress Title I schools is a part of the state’s conditional waiver from the U.S. Department of Education for specific provisions of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, commonly known as the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. TEA identifies Title I schools as campuses with a student population of at least 40 percent low-income.
