Austin Regional Clinic will build a new facility on a historic piece of property in Pflugerville. ARC Kelly Lane will anchor the first Costco-area development along Kelly Lane just east of Colorado Sand Drive. It will be ARC’s second Pflugerville location and its 24th in the Austin area, from Kyle to Hutto. It is expected to open in fall 2018.

“Pflugerville is a city connected to its residents, and we appreciate that,” ARC Senior Director of Operations Carlton Inniss said. “Health care is important to this community, and the residents value and appreciate what ARC does here. It’s a perfect opportunity for us.”

ARC, with a Windemere location that will remain open to serve the west side of Pflugerville, focuses on primary health care, family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine and 21 specialties.

Founded as an association in 1980, ARC is one of Texas’ largest medical groups.

Inniss said the new facility will be approximately 10,000 square feet with another 7,500 square feet available for lease. The new ARC building will include as many as eight doctors, with exam rooms, lab rooms and the ability to offer specialty treatments.

Inniss said the proximity to growth, along with established neighborhoods and schools surrounding it, makes Kelly Lane near SH 130 an ideal location.

The owner of the property is the family of George Pfluger. A great-great-grandson of Pfluger, Larry Mellenbruch, still lives in the family’s historic farmhouse, though it was relocated from what became SH 130 to Garfield, just east of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

“Both of my parents were educators,” said Mellenbruch, an electrical engineer who spent 37 years as a research scientist. “We sold the land for Hendrickson , and we wanted to see something health-related in the area. It’s good for the city of Pflugerville, the neighborhoods, the schools and our family.”

The family has owned and developed much of the 200 acres of farmland they had for 100 years in the area of Kelly Lane and SH 130. Mellenbruch, showing plans of the building for ARC, said another 7,300 square feet will be available for lease at Cornerstone at Kelly Lane.

“The schools and businesses are the cornerstone of our community as we grow,” Mellenbruch said.

Amy Madison, CEO of the Pflugerville Community Development Corp., said ARC fits in with the PCDC’s newly announced Business PFirst initiative for retaining and expanding Pflugerville businesses.

“Health care is a needed service here,” Madison said. “Regionally, statewide, the No. 1 growth industry is medical. We’re happy ARC has decided to expand and make this commitment to our community. And the beat goes on with quality businesses and services coming to Pflugerville.”

As for ARC, the need continues to rise for its medical services.

“We’re growing with Pflugerville, and as the demand grows, we will staff accordingly,” Inniss said. “It’s a true partnership with this community.”
