Houghton Mifflin Harcort Publishing Company plans to relocate its Texas regional office to Round Rock after City Council approved an incentive package June 11. The company will bring with it 270 jobs with an average salary of more than $70,000, according to city documents. As part of the deal approved by City Council the company agrees to lease a majority of a 100,000 square foot Class A office building developed by Live Oak-Gottesman. The building will be in the La Frontera office development. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will also invest $3 million in facility improvements and personal property. In exchange, the city will pay the company $350,000 in Economic Incentive Payments over four years. For leasing space to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt,  Love Oak Gottesman will receive a tax abatement tiered out over 10 years. The abatement will be 100 percent of city property taxes in years one and two, 75 percent in years three and four, 50 percent in years five and six, and 25 percent in years seven through 10. Furthermore, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will receive an abatement of personal property located within the facility tiered over three years. The personal property tax abatment will be 100 percent in year one and 75 percent in years two and three. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt is a publisher and provider of pre-K-12 education content in print and digital media products, according to a media release. Headquartered in Boston, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has 20 offices in the U.S. and six more in other countries.
