Hutto ISD set a proposed property tax rate of $1.6655 per $100 valuation at the Aug. 11 meeting to fund a $70.2 million budget.
The rate is a slight decrease from the previous year's rate of $1.67 per $100 valuation. However, most homes will likely pay more in property taxes because of rising property values.
The effective tax rate, or rate needed for properties within the district to generate the same property tax revenue as the current year, was set at $1.514105 per $100 valuation, according to draft board documents.
On Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. HISD will hold a hearing for the public to provide input on the proposed tax rate. The board will officially adopt the 2016-17 budget at this meeting, as well as consider adopting the 2016 tax rate.
