Pflugerville residents could see around $3 added to their monthly gas bill following a systemwide rate increase.
The Atmos Energy Corp.-MidTex Division is looking to increase rates under the Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program, which would result in an accrued revenue of $67 million for the corporation and an additional $2.84 fee for each Pflugerville resident’s gas bill.
The Railroad Commission has the authority to approve systemwide gas rate increases. Had Pflugerville City Council not taken action, the effective start date for the increase would have started Aug. 12.
However, council voted July 23 to suspend the effective start date by 45 days to Sept. 26.
Pflugerville is a member of a nearly 50-city coalition called Atmos Texas Municipalities, created in an effort to address ATM rate concerns as part of a collective entity.
The Gas Utility Regulatory Act allows for gas utility companies to file rate increase requests in an effort to make a return on its investments, per city documents. If the request is approved by the Railroad Commission, $6.6 million of its revenue would come from ATM’s portion of the market, including Pflugerville.
