In an October WalletHub study, Round Rock ranked 14th out of 515 U.S. cities in terms of economic growth. Ranking behind other Texas cities, including Frisco—which came in at no. 1—Midland, McKinney and Austin, Round Rock also outpaced many similar-sized cities. WalletHub classifies Round Rock as a "midsize" city with its population of more than 100,000. The entire midsize city category comprises cities with populations of 100,000-300,000. In this more specific category, Round Rock placed eighth. The study compared 515 cities across 15 metrics. These metrics included population growth, college-educated population growth and unemployment rate decrease. The study awarded the most points for population growth, working-age population growth and college-educated population growth. Round Rock ranked 22nd in population growth, 21st in job growth, 12th in regional GDP growth, sixth in working-age population growth and 13th in growth in number of businesses.
