1. The much-anticipated solar eclipse happens Monday, with viewers in Central Texas being able to see a partial eclipse of 65 to 67 percent. Capital Metro bus service starts in the city of Round Rock today with a free week of service for rides throughout the city. There will be four routes total that travel as far north as Round Rock's Austin Community College and as far south as Capital Metro's Austin Tech Ridge station. Pflugerville will host a workshop on a proposed mixed-use development called the Pecan District on Tuesday night before its regularly scheduled City Council meeting. The development is planned for the intersection of Heatherwilde Boulevard and Pecan Street and was rezoned in August 2016. 4. The city of Round Rock will hold its first public hearing on the proposed 2017 property tax rate. Chief Financial Officer Susan Morgan proposed a rate of 43 cents per $100 valuation at an earlier meeting. This will be the first of two public hearings on the matter. 5. The University of Texas started the process of removing Confederate statues from campus late Sunday night. University President Greg Fenves said his decision to remove these statues was a direct response to events that occurred Aug. 12 in Charlottesville, Virginia. The statues that were removed include those depicting Robert E. Lee, Albert Sidney Johnston, John Reagan and James Stephen Hogg. 6. A new 1,5000-home development is on its way to the city of Hutto after the City Council approved the development at its Thursday night meeting. The development will be located east and north of Ed Schmidt Boulevard and south of CR 100. In addition to the homes, the development will also include two parks and a walking trail.
