Gonzales updated attendees on several projects around the city, including:
1. The 1849 Park and sports complex on East Pecan Street are vital investments for the city, according to Gonzales. “We have a lot of younger families and we have to provide those services,” he said.
2. Transportation issues are being addressed by the city, Travis County and the Texas Department of Transportation. “Costco, there will be a little bit of a traffic jam out there, I’m sure. But we’re working on it,” Gonzales said.
3. The Heatherwilde Boulevard widening “took 10 years to do, but we needed that connection to the tollway,” Gonzales said. “For the growth, it’s all part of the process. We’re growing at warp speed.” The project needs streetlights to be complete.
4. The work on the East Pecan Street and Weiss Lane project is coming along, Gonzales said. “We need to keep the kids and parents safe,” he said.
5. Other construction projects Gonzales said he’s excited about include the new
Courtyard Marriott and conference center, which opens May 22, the new
Costco store and the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Pflugerville.
6. When asked about plans for Pflugerville's downtown, Gonzales said plans are on the radar, but barriers to changes include a lack of funding sources and the need to first examine MoKan Corridor options. Gonzales said the engineering staff and Council Member Jeff Marsh are putting a plan together regarding downtown improvements.
