On the first Thursday of each month, Hutto city, business and ISD leaders gather at the East Williamson County Higher Education Center for a power breakfast. The event is sponsored by the Hutto Economic Development Corporation. Here are 10 points from Thursday’s power breakfast :
  1. Hutto Economic Development Corporation President/CEO Tim Chase said inquiries from companies have dropped slightly, as have site visits, but his team’s efforts are focused on tenants for the new business park.
  2. Williamson County Commissioner Larry Madsen urged drivers to use caution as utilities are moved in preparation of road work on CR 110.
  3. Madsen also said they are pushing to get the new stoplight at CR 110 and Hwy. 79 sooner because it has become a dangerous intersection.
  4. Hutto Mayor Doug Gaul said 22 single-family permits were issued in April, along with four commercial permits. Last April, only one commercial permit was granted.
  5. Gaul said April sales tax collections for April totaled $244,503, which is 31.8 percent higher than April 2016. He acknowledged the attendance of H-E-B Plus Store General Manager Reb Burgert, whose store contributes to a majority of the difference, Gaul said.
  6. Gaul said the city has secured a 65-acre park site. The city will plan a event for residents in June or July and input will be sought regarding what should be built on the land. Baseball fields and an amphitheater are two ideas mentioned by Gaul.
  7. Guest speaker Helen Ramirez, executive director of business and development for the city of Hutto, discussed updates of the Future Land Use Map, which began Aug. 27 and will conclude with a vote before City Council in June.
  8. Ramirez said the current map has land allocated at 32 percent of the city’s total 51.5 square miles non-residential and 68 percent residential, while the new map shows a turn to 64 percent non-residential and 36 percent residential.
  9. The new map, Ramirez said, focuses on mobility, showing future road projects in the areas of growth.
  10. Hutto Fire Chief Scott Kerwood introduced three new firefighters, who are trained as EMTs and will soon be trained to handle hazardous material incidents.
