Thursday night's Hutto City Council agenda featured a resolution to call for a June special election for Place 6.
Prior to the March 16 council meeting, Council Member Bettina Jordan resigned her seat, stating she no longer had "faith and trust" in the city's leadership, leaving Place 6 open for a new council member.
As a result, Hutto resident Terri Grimm announced her candidacy for the position during Thursday night's council meeting.
She has spoken during public comment periods in the past, calling for prompt replacements when a City Council member resigns.
"The City Council is the governing body of Hutto responsible for the administration of all City business, all budgetary decisions and setting the tax rate each year," Grimm said in a statement. "Hutto is the fifth-highest taxed city out of the 15 in Williamson County; that is unacceptable. Every elected official has a duty to those they represent; responsible spending while providing quality services the public not only deserves but demands."
At Thursday night's meeting, Grimm spoke to the confusion on the council that surrounded the process to replace an open council seat. She said proper procedures were not followed after Michael Smith's resignation and raised concerns that proper proceedings will not be followed in May for Smith's previous seat.
At the end of her statement, she filed the proper documents for her candidacy with Mayor Doug Gaul.
