Last week’s announcement that Round Rock Mayor Alan McGraw would not seek re-election was followed by the announcement that Craig Morgan, council member and mayor pro tem, will seek the mayoral seat in the next election.
“I want to thank mayor McGraw for his longtime service to the city of Round Rock,” Morgan said. “Our city has prospered under his leadership, and he is to be commended.”

Morgan has served as a City Council member for six years.
“Round Rock is a great place to live and continues to have one of the lowest tax rates in the area, even though it is one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S.,” Morgan said. “I look forward to working with the rest of the City Council in providing high-value services to the citizens of Round Rock while at the same time being financially sound and conservative with our tax dollars.”
Morgan serves on the St. David’s Round Rock Medical Center board of trustees and the Round Rock Council Advisory Committee for Austin Community College. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Round Rock, and he previously served on the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the Chasco YMCA board, the Round Rock Planning and Zoning Commission, the Ridgeview Middle School PTA and the Round Rock Charter Review Commission in 2007.
Morgan is married to Amanda Morgan, and they have a son, Garret, who attends The University of Texas at Austin.
On May 6, voters in Round Rock will elect a new mayor and council members for Place 1 and Place 4.
